BFSC Award Winners
How to qualify for a BFSC award:
Skaters must be a Brant Figure Skating Club Member.
Skaters must be a member in good standing with the BFSC.
Awards include all levels of skaters in the club.
Skaters must have passed both freeskate tests (elements and program) for that level.

PRECANSKATE AWARD
Criteria: Skater must be registered for and have participated in the PreCanskate program up until the date of Flashing Blades. Skater should be enthusiastic, energetic, eager, and spirited. Skaters should have a keen interest, dedication, perseverance, and a love for the sport of figure skating.
Skaters are nominated by: Coaches, Program Assistants, and Board Members
Finalists and winners are selected by: Coaches and Program Assistants
2025-2026 awarded to: Bellami Santos
CANSKATE AWARD
Criteria: Skater must be registered and have participated in the Canskate program until the date of Flashing Blades. Skater should be enthusiastic, energetic, eager, and spirited. Skater should have a keen interest in, and love for the sport of figure skating. Skater need NOT have participated in the annual Club Competition, nor have passed the most levels, but they should have demonstrated perseverance and dedication.

JUNIOR STAR SKATING AWARD
Criteria: The recipient of this award is enthusiastic and energetic. They are starting their skating journey and are very interested in the sport. This skater must be registered in the Future Star or Star 1/2 program until the date of Flashing Blades. They must be 10 years old or younger on the date of Flashing Blades.

LAURIE CHENEY MEMORIAL STAR 1/2 AWARD
Criteria: Laurie Cheney was a dedicated member and coach of the Brant Skating Club for over 30 years. She passed away in 2010 but will always be remembered for her smile and fun-loving personality. She directed our Canskate program for many years and was instrumental in bringing year-round skating to our club. The recipient of this award is enthusiastic and energetic. They are starting their skating journey and are very interested in the sport. This skater must be 11 years or older as of the date of Flashing Blades.

MURIEL SHEERE STAR 3/4 AWARD
Criteria: This award is in honour of Muriel Sheere. She was a founding member of the Brant Figure Skating Club in 1947. She was a coach and professional with the BFSC for more than 30 years. This skater must be registered in the Star 3 or 4 program until the date of Flashing Blades. They should be enthusiastic, energetic, eager, and spirited. Skater should have a keen interest and love for the sport of figure skating. This Skater does not need to be the best skater, nor to have passed the most tests. The skater also does not need to have had the best competition results throughout the year. The skater should have dedication, perseverance, and show joy in figure skating.

JOAN SHERMAN JUNIOR AWARD (STAR 5+)
Criteria: Joan Sherman was a renowned skater and coach. Her focus on fundamentals made her an excellent builder of many top skaters who went on to become national and international medallists. She is fondly and most commonly remembered as "The Purple Lady" as she loved the colour purple so much that she wore it head to toe - including her hair and her skates! Joan's passion for skating was infectious, and her students benefited greatly from her breadth of knowledge and experience. The recipient of this award displays tenacity and determination in their practices throughout the year. They also demonstrate dedication and interest in the sport of figure skating by showing consistent and deliberate effort to pursue their goals. This skater must be 12 years old or younger as of the date of Flashing Blades.

GORDON BANKS SENIOR AWARD (STAR 5+)
Criteria: Gord Banks was the pinnacle of club volunteers. He was at every test day, club competition and flashing blades performance. He was also often seen repairing the music room speaker connection, troubleshooting our video analysis equipment and cheering on his daughter, Heather who skated with the club for many years. Gord believed in the community that the Brant Figure Skating Club provided to so many families. He understood the power of consistent support, healthy competition and team spirit, and he led our club through his own strong examples. The recipient of this award is diligent in their efforts to improve their skating. They are leaders in work ethic and display energy and focus in their daily practices. They also volunteer within the club and are positive role models for our younger skaters as they are getting started. This skater must be 13 years old or older by the date of Flashing Blades.

ADULT SKATING AWARD
Criteria: Skater must be registered in an Adult Program until the date of Flashing Blades. This skater should be ENTHUSIASTIC, ENERGETIC, EAGER and SPIRITED. Skater should have a KEEN interest and LOVE for the sport of Skating. This AWARD is not for the BEST Skater, but have DEDICATION and PERSEVERANCE. Recipient is ‘one time’ winner

JANET CLARKE SKATER FOR LIFE AWARD
“It is never too late or too soon. It is when it is supposed to be” -Mitch Albom
Criteria: Skater deserving of this award has achieved success in our adult skating program. They set a goal, worked diligently, and demonstrated resilience and courage in its pursuit.

GOLD TEST MEDALIST
Criteria: Skater who has achieved the highest individual achievement possible in figure skating. The recipients are awarded based on test results, and each receives a medal.

VALEDICTION AWARDS
Criteria: Skater must be a B.F.S.C. member of at least ten (10) years, who is leaving the club or no longer skating the SENIOR program. The recipient(s) is(are) chosen by the board and presented with a keeper plaque.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT OF THE YEAR AWARD
Criteria: Friendly towards all the participants in the Canskate and Precanskate programs. Always on time for each session. Always in good spirits during each session. Takes a leadership role and assists Canskate Director with any tasks needed.

Criteria: The skater receiving this award has demonstrated an ability to juggle many different demands, strengths, and interests with their skating and has done an exemplary job of fitting their interests into their life. This skater is determined and encouraging to all. There are many roads to success, and we are happy to be inspired by yours.

Criteria: The skater receiving this award has achieved a milestone in their career this season. It may have been a goal that was relentlessly pursued and sacrificed for and has been realised, a qualification level that was recognised, or a score that was achieved.

CLUB SPIRIT AWARD
Criteria: This person must be friendly towards clubmates and be inclusive to everyone in the club. They must be on time from practise, be in good spirits, and help their clubmates learn.

MILLARDS AWARD AND SCHOLARSHIP
Criteria:
Skaters must apply to be considered. A winner will be selected from qualified entries and chosen based on their dedication to the sport and accomplishments.
The recipient is chosen by representatives of Millard’s and awarded a plaque and $1,000.
