Volunteer Opportunities
At the Brant Figure Skating Club, we value the contributions of our volunteers who help make our programs and events a success. Volunteering is a fantastic way to support our skaters, meet fellow community members, and be involved in the excitement of figure skating. Whether you're assisting with events, helping behind the scenes, or contributing in other ways, your time and effort are greatly appreciated. Get involved and make a difference today!
We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support the Brant Figure Skating Club throughout the year.
*Please note that as per Skate Ontario’s new Volunteer Screening Policy, some positions (e.g. dressing room supervisor, security personnel etc.) now require an E-PIC (Enhanced Police Information Check).

Have a clear, confident voice and love being part of the action? We need you on the mic!
Our Announcer introduces each category, skater name, and skating club throughout the competition — helping keep the event flowing and making sure every skater gets their moment of recognition as they take the ice.

Love being the friendly face of the club? This one's for you! As the CanSkate Table Attendant, you'll set up the welcome table with nametags and promotional materials, then greet families as they arrive at the rink. You'll help little skaters find their nametags, answer questions about the club and upcoming events (don't worry — we've got handouts for you to refer to, plus a QR code families can scan to email our Communications Chair). You'll stick around for the CanSkate session, snap a photo of any leftover nametags to send to the CanSkate Chair, and tidy up the table at the end. Easy, fun, and you get the best seat in the house for watching our newest skaters!

Got sewing skills or a talent for hunting down the perfect costume pieces? We need your creative eye!
Our Costume Creator helps bring Flashing Blades performances to life by making or sourcing costumes for our skaters — all while working within a budget. If you love a good thrift store treasure hunt, online deal, or can whip up a costume from scratch, this is your role.
-
Do you love transforming a space? Got a knack for interior design and a flair for the dramatic? We need your creative eye!
Our Decorating Committee dreams up the vision, sources the materials, and teams up with our Set Up & Take Down crew to turn our events into something truly magical — the kind of beautiful that transports guests to another world.
This role also includes securing decorations within a set budget and submitting receipts to the club treasurer, so a bit of organization goes a long way alongside the creativity.

Part parent, part detective, part zipper wrangler! As a Dressing Room Supervisor, you'll keep an eye on the skaters assigned to your dressing room and take attendance periodically. You'll help with skates, costumes, and accessories — and put your problem-solving skills to work when a costume piece or accessory goes mysteriously missing (it happens!). You'll follow the event schedule to make sure your skaters are where they need to be, right on time. You'll also keep the dressing room safe and running smoothly: only assigned skaters in and out, bathroom breaks tracked, and the space neat and tidy during and after the show. If you can stay calm in a sea of sequins, we need you!
*Please note this position requires an E-PIC. -
Know all the best spots to grab a bite in and around Brantford? Consider yourself a bit of a foodie? We need your expertise!
Our Food & Drink Connoisseur sources and organizes food and beverages for our events all season long — including meals for judges, coaches, skaters, and volunteers — all while keeping things budget-friendly. If you love a good deal as much as a good meal, this role is a tasty fit.
-
Do you love striking up conversations and building relationships? Are you comfortable making an ask and know how to seal the deal? We want you on our team!
Sponsorship & Fundraising volunteers get our club out into the community — connecting with local businesses and organizations to secure the financial support that helps us reach our goals. It's a great fit for natural networkers who enjoy a bit of friendly negotiation and don't shy away from starting a conversation.
Feeling ambitious? There's also room to lead a fundraising initiative from the ground up and rally a team to help make it happen!
Perfect for: outgoing, confident communicators who like turning "no" into "let's talk."
-
Got a creative streak and love getting the word out? This role is for you!
Our Marketing volunteers create eye-catching advertisements and get out into the community to find fresh, creative ways to promote our events — including sniffing out partnerships that help us reach even more people.
-
Got great timing and don't mind a little tech troubleshooting? This role is for you!
Our Music Operators play each skater's music at just the right moment during competitions. Files are pre-sorted and ready to go, so most of the job is simply clicking play at the right time — with the occasional save if a skater's USB needs plugging in or a track needs troubleshooting on the fly.
-
Have a certification or years of experience in fitness, ballet, or a related discipline? We want you on our team!
Our Off-Ice Instructor helps skaters build the strength, flexibility, and body awareness that translate directly to better performance on the ice. Whether your background is in ballet, conditioning, or another movement discipline, your expertise helps our skaters grow both on and off the ice.
Great for trained instructors who love mentoring young athletes and want to make a lasting impact beyond the rink.
-
Love hyping up a great show? This role is for our biggest cheerleaders!
Program & Ticket Sales volunteers help spread the word about our skaters, coaches, and the incredible talent behind events like Flashing Blades — then bring that excitement to life by selling tickets around the community and at the show, plus programs on show day.
This role is great for friendly, chatty people who love a good sales pitch and enjoy knowing all the details so they can talk up the show to anyone who asks.
Note: If you or a business you know would like to sell Flashing Blades tickets on behalf of the Brant Figure Skating Club, please reach our to bfsc.communications@gmail.com -
Are you organized, level-headed, and love being the go-to person with all the answers? This role is for you!
Our Registration Desk volunteers keep the paperwork in order, track who's registered, and serve as the knowledgeable, friendly face that greets everyone at the door. Whether it's answering a question about the event or pointing someone in the right direction to find one, you'll help things run smoothly — even when it gets busy.
-
Is safety your top priority? Comfortable being the one who lays down the rules (nicely, but firmly)? This role is calling your name!
Security volunteers are the friendly-but-firm presence that keeps our competitions and events running smoothly. From checking bracelets to make sure patrons have paid, to keeping the dressing room area exclusive to skaters and coaches, you'll help make sure everyone — and everything — stays exactly where it should be.
Great for confident, clear communicators who don't mind holding the line, even when it means politely turning someone away.
Bonus perk: you get to rock one of our cool, vibrant vests — easy to spot, easy to feel official!
*Please note this position requires an E-PIC. -
Love building things? Handy with tools? This role is made for you!
From Flashing Blades set pieces to judges' stands at competitions, to keeping our Santa Claus Parade float looking sharp (and safe!), our set builders are the creative muscle behind the scenes. If you enjoy hands-on projects and want to see your work front and centre at our biggest events, this is your spot.
-
Are you a go-getter who likes to jump in and get things done? This role is for you!
Set Up & Take Down Assistants are the team that makes our events look amazing — and disappear just as smoothly when it's all over. Whether it's building balloon arches, arranging décor, or packing everything away neatly at the end of the night, you'll be part of a crew that takes charge, follows a plan, and problem-solves on the fly.
We’re looking for team players who don't mind being on their feet for an hour or two and like the satisfaction of a job well done (twice — once at set up, once at take down!).
-
We're in need of some strong people who won't mind standing and providing the showstopping service of lighting during our show. Spotlight Operators may also be called on to help set up, take down, and operate the heavy spotlights — so those good backs will come in handy! You'll also need strong listening skills and a willingness to roll with a couple of switches in direction (pun intended). And who wouldn't want a front-row chance to see some spectacular skating skills — for free?
-
Excel wizard? Spreadsheet whisperer? We've got a job with your name on it.
This role is wonderfully flexible — think tracking volunteer hours, helping with bookkeeping, keeping tabs on inventory, or wherever a sharp set of spreadsheet skills could make our lives easier. If you're the type who color-codes for fun, this could be your perfect fit. -
Do you love the open road and take pride in safe, timely driving? We need you behind the wheel!
Our skaters need reliable rides from school to the rink daily, plus extra trips for practices around Flashing Blades. If you've got years of driving experience, a commitment to safety, and don't mind being our club's own personal taxi (or bus!) service, this role is a perfect fit.
Please note: a police check is required for this role, given the trust involved in transporting our skaters.
*Please note this position requires an E-PIC.
Your support in any of these roles is invaluable and helps the Brant Skating Club thrive. If you feel you can help the BFSC using other skills, please contact us!
